The Terror Of Tiny Fish

I was able to spend the day with my sisters 10 year old nephew and what fun we had.  We went fishing at the Tooele Reservoir for fish and crawdads.  Sadly no crawdads were to be found, but quite a few baby fish were present.

As so often happens with 10 year old boys, keeping their attention on one task or in one place is nearly impossible.  After sitting with his pole for a good 30 minutes or so he started to walk around trying to find crawdads to use as "bait".  He would go to the shoreline, move a big rock and stand poised with his net in case a crawdad would suddenly dart out and appear.  No luck.  Where we were fishing held no crawdads for him.  He had to find a different honey hole.  On the shoreline a quarter of the lake away he kept noticing a young girl pull up fish after fish and catch things in a bucket near the shoreline.  Of course this is where he "needed" to be to be successful.

Not wanting him to go alone I decided I would venture with him on his quest.  The goal in his mind was crawdads, but when he came to the spot that he sought what was he to find but hundreds of tiny baby fish.  There weren't just schools of fish.  There were teams from rival schools of fish all gathered together in one location.  Now, I feel that it is kind of cheating to catch baby fish in a net, but that was what happened.  Good thing these fish are fast and only a few were actually caught this way.

He would splash into the water, jab his net at a group of fish and end up flinging one or two to the shore.  He would then (after my urging) run to the shore and toss the fish back in so that they would live to see another day and hopefully grow up to be big fish that can be caught on a line.  He wanted to show my dad what he had caught so I found him a cup that he was able to put 4 baby fish in.  After hiking back to where my father, mother, and sister were he showed them his success and then released them back into the water.  Exclaiming that he had out fished them all.  Which I guess technically was true.

By the end of the fishing expedition he was soaked up to his knees,  I was burned to a crisp by the sun, and I think fun was had by all.  Well, maybe not my dad because his fishing line kept tangling, but it was an enjoyable day.

Time to go soak in aloe vera.

The Divide

I sat as a passenger in the backseat of a car the other night and watched as rain drenched the back half of the car while the front half remained dry.  What are the odds that the car would have stopped perfectly between the devision of where it was and wasn't raining.

A Burning Of The Bosom

I had a real burning of the bosom experience last night as I sat around a warm and bright campfire.  A piece of still glowing hot ember jumped from the fire pit and decided to land in the most inconvenient spot.  Down my blouse.  I felt it burn ALL the way down.

Walking With Dinosaurs, Starring At Gems, and Listening To The People

The Natural History Museum of Utah

One day I would love to have access to the collection storage rooms in all the museums in the world.  I know that this is impossible, but we only every get to see a fraction of what a museum has when we view the exhibits that are on display.  What marvels are just waiting their turn on a shelf to be shown to the world?

These bones are located under a glass floor
that you get to walk over.  Just a tad bit
unnerving because you think you are going
to fall through.

The Way To Spend An Afternoon

Take a comfortable chair.
Add a great view.

I didn't even mind the solar panels.

Afternoon At Tiffany's

In honor of watching "Breakfast At Tiffany's" I actually went to and walked inside a Tiffany's and Co.  The jewelry was breathtaking.  So many diamonds.  I especially loved the yellow diamonds even though I don't tend to gravitate towards a colored diamond.  The staff were so nice and even made sure that since it was my fist time in a Tiffany's that I tried on a piece of jewelry.  I ended up wearing an $11000.00 yellow diamond ring.  It was gorgeous.  I can now say that I have been to a Tiffany's.

I Broke A Nail

It is amazing how all of life's little hurts can ultimately be summed up in little phrases as small as "I broke a nail".  We have all experienced these hurts and they may seem insignificant but the pain they cause is real.  Sometimes the pain can be fleeting.  Hanging around only long enough for a nail to grow back for instance.  Sometimes it lingers on as a constant ache until one day you don't notice that it is there.

Foursquare

What do you do when the power goes out at your place of work and you are a computer based company?  Play foursquare of course!

The power company was working on our street throughout the day and right around 2 o'clock they must have shifted, cut, or disturbed something that caused the power to be turned off in our entire building.  It only took about a minute for most of the company to vacate their desks and gather around for a spirited game of foursquare.

We have a thing called game day Thursday in which we play a short (normally around 5 minutes) game of some kind.  This week it was foursquare so the taped foursquare "court" was still outlined on the floor.  It was fun to gather together and play against one another.  None of us was very good, but we had enough "skill" to make it enjoyable and sometimes even funny.  This only lasted a few minutes until the power came back on and we all had to go back to work, but I loved every moment of it.

I was even roped into continuing the game after hours when most people had gone home for the night so all in all I would call this a successful work day.

Timing Is Everything

The chosen flick:
"Breakfast At Tiffany's".

The conversation half way through the film:
Roomate "How much longer is this movie?"
Me "Probably about an hour."
My roommate grabs the remote and pauses the movie to find out the time.

The outcome:

Thus proves that I am right once again.  It also proves my awesome amazingness.

It is amazing how many blog posts I write in my mind ever day that never make it from my brain to the computer screen.

10 Dollars Richer and None The Wiser

I am perfectly fine standing in front of a crowd when I am prepared to do so.  What I do not like to do is be spontaniously called up in front of a group of people, especially when they are my coworkers.  I also don't like when in standing infront of  a group I am asked to recite a memorized something.  Too bad none of this mattered the other day.

During our monthly company review the owner of my company pulled a few peoples names out of a hat to recite from memory our companies new purpose, mission, and attributes.  It would be my luck to have my name pulled from the hat and beckoned to the front of the company.  Luckily with only a slightly red face and only a few do overs I recited them all and in doing so increased my wealth by a whole 10 dollars.  Not a bad payoff for doing something I do not enjoy.

Perspective

The steam that whisped off of the mountains this morning transported me to another world.  I was surrounded by hissing volcanoes.  Each mountain held the belly of a beast waiting to spew forth a torrent of steaming hot lava to consume all around it.

Craziness Just Happened

Its crazy what women do for "fashion".  I won't be able to use my hands for the next 3 weeks while I have these fake nails, but at least they look cool.  I also realized that my guitar practicing will have to be put on hold since I also wont be able to play the chords.  Why do we (women) do these things.

Crafternoon

I am not a crafter.  As I have stated previously if something didn't start out that way, why change it.  With this being said yesterday I was obligated to craft.  I promised my roommates that I would attend a craft day even though crafting in my opinion can be compared to one of the circles of ...... well I won't mention where.  The only problem now was what in the world was I going to make.

I spent time at craft stores.  I went to craft websites.  I even racked my brain for things that my room could use.  Nothing came to mind.   I was up a creek.  In a last ditch effort I went with my roommates to a final scrapbooking store near the house that we would be assembling the crafts.  Miracle of miracles my brain kicked into high gear.  Maybe I am just able to come up with idea's when the pressure is on.

While my roommates looked at wood cutouts to paint I started looking at the metal containers.  I saw a small metal container located near some buttons and different colored ribbons.  As I looked at all these three things something in my mind clicked.  I could make a little pick me up jar for when you would need a little pick me up.  All I needed was to assemble these little jars and put in little inspiring uplifting notes.  I could give one to my sister and to my mother for those days when they just need a little boost.  (My sister hasn't received hers yet, but I think they turned out pretty well)
